Invoice — computer generated tax invoice.

How to create a GST invoice

  1. 1. Add your business details. Legal name, address and GSTIN as registered. Upload a logo if you have one.
  2. 2. Add the customer. Tick "Customer is GST registered" and enter their GSTIN so they can claim input tax credit.
  3. 3. Set the invoice number and dates. Keep a single continuous series per financial year — we suggest the next number for you.
  4. 4. Add line items. Description, HSN or SAC code, quantity, rate, any discount and the GST rate for that item.
  5. 5. Choose CGST + SGST or IGST based on the place of supply, then check the summary.
  6. 6. Download the PDF or print it. Share it with your customer over email or WhatsApp.

GST invoice requirements

Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists what a tax invoice must carry. The generator above includes each of these fields:

  • Supplier name, address and GSTIN
  • A consecutive invoice number (up to 16 characters) and the date of issue
  • Customer name, address and GSTIN where registered
  • HSN code for goods or SAC code for services
  • Description, quantity, unit rate, discount and taxable value per item
  • Rate and amount of CGST, SGST or IGST
  • Place of supply, total invoice value and the amount in words

CGST vs SGST vs IGST

CGST is the central share and SGST the state share of tax on an intra-state supply. At 18%, each is 9%, and together they equal the full GST.

IGST applies when the supplier and the place of supply are in different states or union territories. The full rate goes on one IGST line, and the Centre later shares it with the destination state.

Need only the tax on a single amount? Use the GST calculator.

GST invoice example

A Pune agency bills a Pune client for 10 hours of design at ₹1,000 per hour at 18% GST:

  • Taxable amount: ₹10,000.00
  • CGST 9%: ₹900.00
  • SGST 9%: ₹900.00
  • Grand total: ₹11,800.00
  • In words: Rupees Eleven Thousand Eight Hundred Only

Bill the same work to a Bengaluru client and the ₹1,800 appears as a single IGST line instead. To check that your rate still leaves a healthy profit, try the profit calculator, the margin & markup calculator or the discount calculator.

Sending an estimate before the job starts? Use the quotation generator and convert it into an invoice once the work is approved.
